How Mixing Works in Schedule 1
Mixing is the core mechanic in Schedule 1 for creating powerful and profitable products. Understanding how it works is key to building your empire. Here's a step-by-step guide:
1. Getting Started: The Mixing Workbench
- To start mixing, you first need a place to do it!
- Unlock the basic Mixing Table by hiring your first dealer and completing their initial quest.
- Purchase the Mixing Table for $500 from the hardware store (available once you reach Hoodlum I rank).
- Place the table in your safehouse or another owned property.
2. The Basic Mixing Process
- Interact with the Mixing Table to open the interface.
- Place one unpackaged base product (like OG Kush, Meth, etc.) onto the table.
- Add consumable ingredients (like Cuke, Paracetamol, Banana, etc.) onto the table. You can add multiple ingredients.
- Load the items into the mixer (on the basic table, you do this manually).
- Press the "Begin" button to start the mixing process.
- Wait for the mix to complete. Simple mixes are quick, but creating new strains can take time (up to 60 minutes in the game).
- Retrieve the finished (often unpackaged) product from the mixer.
- Take the product to a Bagging Station to package it for sale.
3. Understanding Effects and Value
- Each base product starts with some initial effects (e.g., OG Kush might have 'Calming').
- Adding ingredients can:
- - Add new effects: (e.g., adding Cuke adds 'Energizing').
- - Replace existing effects: Sometimes, a new effect might overwrite a previous one (like in our calculator example where Banana replaces 'Calming' with 'Sneaky' when mixed with OG Kush).
- - Have no effect: Some combinations might not yield results, or adding an ingredient that provides an effect already present might not do anything extra.
- The final combination of effects determines the product's selling price and customer appeal.
- There's a maximum number of effects a product can have (usually 8). Adding more ingredients beyond this limit won't add more effects, but will still cost you money!
4. Costs and Profit
- Every ingredient you add has a cost. This cost is factored in regardless of whether the ingredient actually adds a useful effect in the final product.
- Your profit is the final selling price minus the cost of the base product (if applicable) and all the ingredients used.
- Use the Mix Calculator tool on this site to experiment and find profitable recipes before trying them in-game!
5. Advanced Tips
- Ingredient Order Matters: Sometimes, the order in which you add ingredients can unlock unique, hidden effects or result in a better final product. Experiment!
- Re-Mixing: You can often take a product you've already mixed and mix it again with new ingredients to further enhance it.
- Upgrading Equipment: As you rank up (e.g., Peddler II), you can buy better mixing stations (like the Mk. 2) that allow automation and mixing more items at once.
- Automation: Later in the game (Hoodlum V), you can hire Chemists and Handlers to fully automate your mixing operations.
Mastering the mix takes practice and experimentation. Pay attention to costs, effects, and customer demand. Good luck building your empire!
